About In Our Shoes

Welcome.

I’m Marisa Santoro (aka “Shoe Hostess”) and founder of  In Our Shoes..

.
Growing a female village over the years as an IT executive on Wall Street, a writer, educator and seminar leader for women, I discovered a natural instinct for ‘picking up‘ brilliant women wherever my feet landed. Little did I know that it would lead to me to where I am today, creating footprints of support, inspiration and action here at In Our Shoes – www.InRShoes.com. In Our Shoes contributes to the success of women professionals by sharing lessons learned from our community, providing insight into today’s business realities and inspiring hard working women who have taken a stand for following their passions in business. Today’s women recognize that while we may need an income, collecting a paycheck  is not enough. Being happy in our careers will lead us to more fulfilling lives and shape us into being better mothers.

.

In Our Shoes covers issues that matter most to working mothers in the US and UK given the many shoes we swap. Here, I (and a team of contributors from both sides of the pond) scout the events and success story interviews with women executives, entrepreneurs and topic experts as well as deliver webinars, teleconferences and coaching seminars for smart ambitious working women. This platform is focused on delivering the tactical tools, resources and authentic truths (too often swept under the rug), to inspire change amongst career women as well as working moms and mums as we struggle with the traditional mold of motherhood or our “second shift” amidst our busy lifestyles. More importantly, it is meant to action change and raise awareness on the unspoken stressors working women face so they may adjustably keep a foothold in their families as well as their careers.

What women want out of life:  to be successful and to help others succeed.

The British Connection

I’m drawn to the British lifestyle especially working mums and how they’re being empowered (or lack thereof) to grow their careers post-babies.  You’ll often find  me on my soap box whenever the UK breaks news that impacts the working mum life and how it compares to American women in business. Most Americans are shocked when I raise awareness on how far behind working mums fall in their careers after having children, even by European standards. We’ve made great strides in the States staking our flex time line in the sand given how quick we’re thrown back into the workplace after children. I’ve written articles on the many factors preventing work mums from returning back to their careers. I’m also a guest columnist  for London’s Here is the City news. This Brit maternity leave article stirred some chatter across the pond. For this reason In Our Shoes has included the support of working mums into its platform.

I’m often told I’m a natural at ‘collecting’ smart ambitious women who juggle it ALL.

.
On the corporate front, I am inspired to sit on the Board of Directors of the only  NYC chapter of NAFE , an American powerhouse of success minded women (National Association of Female Executives). I’m also a techie at heart and know a bit too much about computer programming given my 17+ year career in IT. My latest passion: Qliktech-ing.

.

I’m often referred to as the restless working mommy juggler around here, given all that I take on as a single parent – yes you read right. “Cannot” is not a word in my vocabulary. My purpose in life is to contribute to the success of women professionals by leading seminar coaching programs, creating female connect channels and writing content that celebrates, inspires, supports, motivates, empowers and actions change for women. In Our Shoes has become quite a passionate obsession – long nights, early mornings with Europe – all worth it.

.

May the wisdom smuggled back to you here from the events and interviews that I land, inspire you to

define your own normal, given all of the shoes you swap in and out of everyday.
